Aelwyd Crymych

Introduction
The members of Aelwyd yr Urdd Crymych a branch of the Welsh League of Youth have entertained audiences locally and nationally in concerts, dramas, theatrical presentations and Noson Lawen for many years. The branch at Crymych was established in the early 1940's to provide the children and the young people of the area a place where they could enjoy their leisure time through the medium of Welsh and develop their confidence and respect for each other and the people of the world.

The Urdd movement has now developed into a massive, dynamic organisation for the Youth of Wales and is one of Europe's leading Youth Organisations. It's membership nos. exceeds 50,000 young people from all over Wales providing an exciting programme of events in the Welsh League of Youth calendar is the Urdd National Eisteddfod which has become the largest Youth Festival in Europe offering drama, song, dance, rock and roll, pageants, arts & Craft, sport and much more.

The Crymych Aelwyd Choir have had numerous successes over the years in the Urdd National Eisteddfod winning both the mixed and girls choir competition during the last few years. In 1997 the Urdd celebrated 75 years and the Aelwyd were invited to sing in a united choir with over 250 other Urdd members from all over Wales. The concert consisted of many international stars no one more so than the international acclaimed baritone Bryn Terfel. It was a wonderful experience for all the members involved.

Over the years the members have raised thousands of pounds for numerous local and national charities. A few years ago the Aelwyd was honoured by the Urdd movement when invited to perform and present The Peace and Goodwill Message from the Youth of Wales to the Youth of the World'. This message is transmitted annually in many languages to countries throughout the world and today through the use of modern technology can read on the Internet.

During our short visit to Canada it is our hope that we can provide a taste of the culture of Wales through the sound and talent of its Youth.
